the thing about cancer podcast series

Hosted by renowned broadcaster Julie McCrossin, The Thing About Cancer podcast series explores parts of the cancer journey that doctors may not cover, such as sex and cancer, or talking to your kids about cancer. Julie, who is a cancer survivor herself, talks to experts and people affected by cancer, in this informative and often candid series of conversations.

I co-produce this Australian Podcast Awards nominated series. So far we've produced 16 episodes.

I am involved in everything from scripting, to recording, to directing the talent, to audio editing, using the Hindenburg editing suite. I wrote the show notes and managed the digital roll out of all the content. I also produced a series of videos to promote the series.

Family Dynamics and Cancer

The thing about cancer is that a cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect one person, the ripples of that diagnosis extend well into the family group. But are there things that people can do to manage the impact of cancer on the family and create a supportive environment? And what does the word “family” even mean in today’s world?

In this episode of The Thing About Cancer, Julie sits down with psychologist Cath Adams and oncology social worker Ray Araullo, to tackle these questions, and more.

Tests and Cancer

The thing about cancer is that you need to have many tests to diagnose cancer, and see how you’re tracking during and after treatment.

But there are many questions that may crop up before and after your cancer diagnosis, such as what’s the difference between all these tests? And why do you need so many? Why does it take so long to get the results?

In this episode of The Thing About Cancer, Julie sits down with medical oncologist Dr Lorraine Chantrill, to tackle these questions, and much more.

Brain Fog and Cancer

The thing about cancer is that it can make you feel a bit muddled.

You might be finding it hard to concentrate or starting to worry about your memory. Lots of people call this “chemo brain”. But is it actually caused by chemotherapy and what can you do about it?

In this episode of The Thing About Cancer, Julie tackles these questions and more with Professor Janette Vardy, a medical oncologist who has been studying these issues.

Julie mccrossin talks about how podcasts changed her life when she was first diagnosed with cancer

When Julie McCrossin was diagnosed with cancer, her friends suggested she start listening to podcasts, as they were a great way to get her mind off her treatment, and she could listen to them anywhere and anytime.

Now she hosts her own podcast, The Thing About Cancer, and she’s helping other people deal with their cancer experiences.

I produced this video, and a suite of other videos to promote this engaging and informative podcast series. See more of my videos @ www.facebook.com/pg/CancerCouncilNSW/videos/

how to download and listen to our podcast - an animation

I created this animation to help our target audience (who are often older people) learn how to download and listen to our podcast on their phones and tablets.

I wrote the script, produced the animation using Premiere Pro and After Effects, and recorded my own voice as the narration track using our podcast recording equipment.

The video is posted on the CCNSW website, and will be distributed through CCNSW social media channels.
